RiSE QLD Advocacy and Support Network is proud to be part of a global movement to treat and prevent toxic stress, now understood to be one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression. Extremely stressful experiences in childhood can alter brain development and have lifelong effects on health and behaviours. When we invest in children now, we do not have to pay later. We believe in collaboration with other Service Providers is vital by capturing a portrait of collective knowledge, promoting legislative reform as well as protecting and defending the fundamental needs and rights of our most vulnerable people in society. In solidarity with disadvantaged people, we advocate for systemic change required to create a more just and caring society.

Our aim is to provide consultative advice to a diverse range of community members, empowering them to exercise their rights and responsibilities through an informed decision making process.

Our vision incorporates the view that every marginalised individual in our community holds the capacity to become the architect of their own future. Enabling a person to develop life skills in turn, strengthens the family unit thus transforming communities.

Our goal is to communicate with Government departments, associated providers, specialists and individuals to address the lived experience of domestic violence, rising statistics, affordable housing and the barriers preventing at risk individuals from moving forward.

Understanding trauma gives hope, being understood aids in healing

Testimonials

RiSE QLD is a community-based organisation that is a consistent advocate for local people who are struggling in the face of a range of challenges. In particular, I know that RiSE’ focus on trauma-informed services for people affected by family and domestic violence is filling an urgent need in our community

Mark Ryan MP

State Member for Morayfield – Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrective Services

As a GP working in an area identified as higher risk for domestic issues, I take courage from the grassroots support generated by RiSE. At the Resilience showing last week the idea that multiple childhood traumas not only “add up” but also “multiply” the risk of later physical pathologies – that which I deal with everyday – quite apart from the burden of mental decay, was confirming and galvanising. We, as a community, have a lot to do…”

Dr Danny Lean

General Practitioner, Moreton & Deception Bay Medical Centres

RiSE has accepted the challenge for change in our society with regards to our vulnerable and traumatised people but for these changes to become part of a caring and responsive culture they must become integrated and part of the way every person and organisation operates.”
